About Lifetime
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Lifetime Doors, Inc.

History

In the mid 1940s Midwest Plywood was a thriving distributor of hardwood and softwood plywood with warehouse locations in Detroit, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo. Midwest Plywood not only sold plywood to local manufacturers, but also wholesaled carloads of flush doors into developing markets in the northeast, southeast and southwest.

By 1947, with the demand for flush doors steadily increasing, Midwest Plywood's door requirements outstripped the capacity of their local suppliers, and Midwest began to produce its own flush doors. In early 1950 Midwest reorganized its door manufacturing business as a separate company known as Wisconsin Knight, Inc., later merging Wisconsin Knight into what is now Lifetime Doors, Inc. Lifetime's pattern from the beginning has been to grow in response to demand, building the required facilities from the ground up, rather than through acquisition. Lifetime survived the weeding out and consolidation phase the industry went through in the 1980's and 1990's because of its strong financial position, and the commitment of its ownership to remain independent.

Committed to Quality Work

Given that roughly 10% of the company's work force has twenty or more years of service, and every Lifetime door plant boasts senior management with twenty-five or more years of flush door manufacturing experience, the concept of "quality people bringing you quality products" is more than just a slogan. We understand that continued success depends on each Lifetime employee's commitment to "sweating" the small stuff in meeting the needs of our customers.

Three basic principles are key to the manner in which we strive to conduct our business. First, we expect our reputation to reflect that we are consistent, responsive, dependable, and positive in both attitude and approach. Second, quality is to be a way of doing business, not a process with a beginning and an end. And third, service relationships are to be approached with an appreciation for the affect that our actions have on all involved parties.
